Qantas boosts family transfer of frequent flyer points

Qantas has loosened the rules on the family transfer of frequent flyer points, with high flyers now able to share up to 400,000 points per year with eligible family members.

Under the previous arrangement travellers could transfer only 100,000 points per year, but the new system – which came into effect overnight – permits four transfers of 100,000 each time in a single year. Full details are available at Qantas.com.au.

The move sees Qantas catch up to Virgin Australia, which already permits four transfers of 100,000 Velocity points per year to a family member.

However, Virgin Australia can still boast the most family-friendly frequent flyer scheme due to the ability to funnel points and status credits to family members under its 'family pooling' feature.

An enhancement that really is an enhancement! What's the world coming too? Anyway, good move Qantas, but it'd be better if status credits were included.

If Qantas offered the status credit sharing I would (and my partner) tip my business 70% qantas 30% Virgin rather than the reverse.

Bring it on Qantas!
