InterContinental Hotel Los Angeles: western USA's tallest building

California will pick up a new 900-room hotel in 2017 with the opening of the InterContinental hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Poised to become the largest InterContinental hotel in the Americas, the 73-storey, 335-metre tall property will also be named the tallest building in the western United States – providing unobstructed 360-degree views of Los Angeles.

To take in the view, guests can visit a ‘sky deck’ on the building’s 70th floor, with the building also partially opened to retail and office space.

The InterContinental Downtown Los Angeles hotel will embrace the laid-back sophistication of the city, with natural wood and warm colours in the building to reflect LA’s beach culture.

Not forgotten is the Los An car culture, represented in the design of the sky lobby through the internal panelling and décor:

Members of IHG Rewards Club will be able to earn and redeem points at the hotel, while Royal Ambassadors can enjoy their usual perks such as a guaranteed room in an already-full hotel, free 8am early check-in and a guaranteed upgrade to an Executive room, a Club room or a suite.

Australian travellers can fly to Los Angeles with Qantas from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, serving as the stopover for the Red Roo’s onward flights to New York.

Virgin Australia also flies to LA city from the three dynamic Australian cities, although services between Melbourne and LA face the axe from October 26 2014 in favour of daily flights on the Brisbane-Los Angeles route.

Passengers can also fly from Sydney to Los Angeles on United and Delta – earning points in MIleagePlus in the case of United, or Virgin Australia Velocity or Delta SkyMiles on Delta flights and Virgin Australia codeshares.

From October 28, Melbournians can fly direct to Los Angeles on United’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner – ending the current Sydney detour on UA’s Boeing 777.
