• I miss the arrivals lounge. I used to fly into HKG at 7am, have a shower and get my shirt ironed, then head into the office. Now I generally leave earlier and fly in the night before. I'd love to see them bring one back, even if it is a shared facility between multiple airlines. Or even just set ...

This route is a really good way to experience Cathay first class. Because the route is short, it doesn't cost too many points, and you still get to experience the Wing F and/or the Pier F on the way out, as well as a (too short) stint up the front of the plane. Plus Taipei is a fascinating city t...

  • I checked with Plaza Premium - no ironing service at the Arrivals lounge. Boo. Will probably change my flight habits to arrive in the evenings.

  • Does anyone know whether the Plaza Premium Arrival Lounge opposite will iron your shirt? This (in addition to the showers) was a major benefit of the Arrival for me. Meant I could head straight to the office not looking like a disheveled traveller.

  • In my experience, CX seem to have tightened up their upgrades over the past year or two. I generally book about 2-3 months out and at that point most flights are on waitlist for an upgrade. I generally only get the upgrade confirmed ahead of my flight if the J cabin is half full. If there are 5 o...

  • I expect that with 3 flights a day x 40-50 passengers eligible for lounge access, it's probably cheaper to run a lounge than pay Qantas to use theirs. Also given the size and location, the rent can't be that high.

  • Mind you, if you were paying the Plaza lounge is a much better option.

  • I use it and it is generally reasonably busy before Cathay flights. I prefer the Qantas lounge for food but if I don't need a big meal a few dumplings and a beer at the Cathay lounge hits the spot. Also they have some nice showers. Most importantly, they call Cathay flights and you can hit up the...

  • Nice! As a CX MPO member, I'm actually interested in the reverse. Until now there's been little MPO benefit to booking Qantas domestic flights, sometimes even flex fares get zero credit. Will be interesting to see whether all Qantas domestic flights get a CX codeshare or only those that connect d...

  • 11D/G on the A350-900 have the same issue. I've only been on them once, when I got an upgrade an hour before take-off, so I was delighted to be anywhere in the business cabin. Actually it wasn't that bad once the curtain was closed. I am a fairly sound sleeper so any additional traffic didn't wak...

  • Wow, count me as a loser in this change. I go MEL-HKG in premium economy and upgrade to business. I earn 4% more Asiamiles but the upgrade costs 60% more Asiamiles.

  • Great summary. I travel CX because the schedule is the most important thing. Everything else is the tail wagging the dog. A couple of nit picks:(1) Daytime flights from HKG to SYD don't generally get you home in time to spend the evening with your family - at best on CX139 you arrive home at 9:30...

  • Visited recently; I am lucky enough to have an overseas issued Amex so was able to use that for free entry. I thought it was very good, a decent choice of food that rivals the Qantas lounge, very attentive staff (because there were so few people in the lounge) and the seating options are probably...

Looks great. One small point: they have power adapters for loan at the desk if you need one.

  • Fair enough really. CX has four excellent lounges at HKG, I'd rather they spent the money adding or upgrading an outport lounge than upgrading the Cabin. The Cabin was the first CX lounge I ever visited and I was super impressed. Recently I went back and was really disappointed with how limited a...
