• This reads to me like an erosion of value for customers. Great for the Lufthansa bottom line but phrases like "the price point for the standard Boeing 777X business class experience will remain comparable to today’s business class fares" (i.e. it will cost the same but you get less unless ...

  • Qantas now seem to be preparing the way for the whole Sunrise project to be cancelled, never mind just back flipping on beds in the hold. In today's Fairfax press Alan Joyce is saying (I'm paraphrasing) Sunrise will proceed "if the business case stacks up" and "we wont hesitate to kill the projec...

  • Yes, signup bonuses are definitely the way to earn points these days for relatively small spenders like myself. Leaving aside the possible impact on my credit record of churning through new credit cards, the signup bonus usually far outweighs any degradation of points received from the day to day...

Citi Rewards transfer rates seem to have changed since this article was published (worsened of course) so bonus points for the Rewards Signature Visa + optional Linked Diners Club Card are now up to 124000 for Velocity (transfer rate is now 2.5:1)

  • Recently flew SQ MEL-SIN-MEL on 777-300ERs with inflight wifi, but on both flights the connection was so slow as to be effectively non-existent. Has anyone had any luck with SQ wifi?

  • Its a shame points transfers from Altitude rewards aren't included in this offer (confirmed with Velocity). My Amex automatically sends points to Altitude every month and from there the points can be transferred to the likes of Velocity, Krisflyer etc. Probably better value to have one of the car...

  • Reading between the lines of this and other Airbus comments on Qantas' Project Sunrise plans, AIrbus' position seems to be the standard A350-900ULR is basically all Airbus will offer and won't commit to much than that to meet the Qantas demands of full payload, passengers and extended range. Sunr...

  • Why does the article generalise that connections from Australia leave much to be desired when @bloatedstoat posts above what looks to be perfect connections from/to MEL (albeit possibly temporary)? The article then uses SYD as an example - yes, those connections are terrible but not all are.

  • Have just applied for and had a Westpac Altitude Black approved because it was one of last majors with an Amex earn rate >1 FF point per $. Beforehand I rang Westpac and asked them about any plans to reduce/ditch/change Amex and was told "there are no plans". One week later this announcement. ...

  • Have been to Japan on two trips over the past 12 months for a total of five weeks and used pre-paid data-only SIMs purchased in Australia from a prominent Japanese travel agent. These SIMs are supposed to be 4G/LTE on the NTT Docomo network but I only had 4G for about four hours once in Osaka and...

  • Am liking all these drip feeds coming out of David's time with Qantas and Boeing in Seattle. Although, as many others have noted here and elsewhere, most of this is PR rather than anything concrete.

The Virgin Money High Flyer card is now 5 times harder to achieve - previous bonuses (of 50-60k points) only required one spend of $3000 over 3 months - now you have to spend $3000 in each of 5 months to get the full bonus.

  • Totally get why flyers with status see this a retrograde. But for me with lowly status this is good - I have been avoiding QF and flying VA because anyone can buy the VA exit row seats at the time of booking.

  • If you are asking about bonus points for new applications, in my recent experience Amex is definitely applying the previous customer exclusion - currently 18 months since closure of the last card before you are a 'new' customer again. From memory, this is up from 12 months in 2016.

An inevitable and logical evolution of payment technology. However my wallet contains more than just EFTPOS/credit cards so replacing those with these smartphone-based systems is personally of little benefit.
