• Let's go enjoy the more spectacular, pristine and un-visited reefs and islands of tropical Canberra. Said no one ever ;)

  • The elephant in the room: Canberra's population is far too small a base to support widebody international services...

  • You can't cite "artistic liberty" since you haven't seen the building and the implemented planting scheme. That's because it hasn't been constructed yet(!) and the plants aren't even grown yet, much less installed into position(!!)

  • Australia after these changes come in...Airport A: laptops and liquids stay in, belt comes off.Airport B: laptops and liquids come out, belt stays on.FFS. We are not a third world country and can do MUCH better than this confusingly crappy melange of security standards.

  • We used to say "Lord help us, we're in the hands of lawyers!".......we should change that to accountants.

  • You're not the only one pondering this Incongruous and mind-boggling decision. It would be like Air France touting a completely American southern style BBQ menu.

  • Snatch. Grab. Hike. All this week I've as if Alan Joyce never left.

  • You said it APACPete! Create an artificial 'problem' (i.e. outrageously high cost for poor quality product) then magically offer a 'solution'. It's just a charade to appear 'reasonable' and 'listening' to customers. Not surprised as I've seen it all before. I'll mark this as the first black spot ...

  • Emirates restarts Adelaide flights

    Feb 06, 2024, 01:57 PM

Great news for Adelaide, but this is yet another reminder that when it comes to premium travel, Emirates still lags far behind Qatar and Etihad with that antiquated 2-3-2 layout, which will be kicking around for many years yet. Caveat emptor.

  • I once bought a 4 year QC membership, and most times the lounges were crowded like Piccadilly Circus. Never bothered to renew...I got more peace and quiet out in the terminal, and that's honestly no joke. The prospect of chair hunting, dirty plates and glasses, and stuffy crowded spaces had no ap...

  • Blake, in the real world we sadly can't predict strokes, seizures, sudden heart attacks, people falling and breaking femurs, house fires, car accidents, murders etc. etc. involving our loved ones. These are not '...pending circumstances' and we would NOT "....usually know somewhat in advance". Th...

  • Really pity those folks who have to travel for urgent compassionate reasons (i.e. family emergencies, sickness, impending death) once this new money-grabbing impost kicks in. Currently you can drop everything at once and be on your way in a matter of hours, if you really needed to. Now, you might...

  • Well said, Dredgy. It's not a new thing at all, just a reversion to an old (bad) policy. And also agree that Australian tourist volume to Brazil did not increase massively when visa conditions were relaxed. Which is not that surprising given that Brazil (and South America in general) do not rank ...

  • Too true. I'll never understand anybody who gets slugged with the highest administrative fees in the world (a.k.a the infamous "one off cost) would happily pat the responsible politician on the shoulder for a job well done(!!!) Then again, I'm not a sadomasochist. Instead, we should all be giving...

  • Phil, the problem is that in the real world you must add 'just $39 a year' along with all the OTHER increases in gov't fees, taxes, charges, so called "one offs", levies etc. etc. On their own they are 'a pretty small cost' (in your own words). But combined, it all adds up to an obscenely massive...
